Raleigh, N.C. - Behind a strong defensive effort in rainy conditions, the Battling Bishop women's soccer team fought to a scoreless draw at Meredith College on Wednesday evening in Raleigh. The Avenging Angels, who clinched a share of the USA South regular season championship with the tie, held a 12-6 edge in shots but were unable to best a Wesleyan defense anchored by senior Danielle Hickman.

Each team got off two shots in the opening period, with NCWC keeper Sarah Hovis making two stops and the Angels surviving a Rebecca Staylor shot-on-goal with a team save. The Angels got off eight attempts in the second half, but Hovis was equal to the task with four saves in the period.

Meredith got off the only shot of the first overtime, which saw Hovis tally her seventh and final save of the match. Wesleyan proceeded to hold a 2-1 edge in shots in the second overtime, the latter coming from Staylor and saved by MC goalie Jaisa Loch to preserve the draw.

The Bishops wrap up their regular season slate with a 10-5-2 overall record and 6-3-2 conference mark. Wesleyan will now await seeding for the USA South Tournament, which kicks off quarterfinal play on Saturday. Stay tuned to www.ncwcsports.com on Thursday for opponent and game time.
