Women's Soccer Falls to Shenandoah in Opener

RALEIGH, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan College women's soccer team fell 5-1 to Shenandoah University (Va.) in the opening match of the season at the Meredith College Classic on Friday in Raleigh.

Shenandoah (2-0) got out to a quick 3-0 lead within the first 8 minutes of play against the Bishops. Wesleyan would then strike back with a goal four minutes later from junior forward Cydney Nichols to trim their deficit to two at 3-1.

It would then remain 3-1 until the 66th minute as the Lady Hornets added their 4th goal before tacking on another late goal to take the opening win. SU would also beat Meredith College 6-1 on Saturday as well.

The young Lady Bishops (0-1) were led by shots on goal from Nichols and sophomore forward Claire Bailey while junior Naniiya Brown and senior Sarah Cook also attempted shots.

Junior Goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs made an impressive 14 saves on 19 shots on goal from the Hornets.

The Bishops will next finish the Meredith Classic on Saturday with a another neutral-site game vs. CAC foe Southern Virginia University with kickoff set for 4:15 PM.
