Southern VA Rallies to Stun Lady Bishops

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's soccer team suffered a tough-luck defeat falling 2-1 to non-conference foe, Southern Virginia University in their final game of the Meredith College Classic on Saturday.

Junior forward Cydney Nichols scored a goal in her second straight game as she got the Bishops out to a 1-0 lead just 14:41 into the game. She was assisted on the goal from senior Victoria Burkhart.

The Lady Bishops would then take that lead and a 6-4 advantage in shots into the intermission.

The Knights (1-1) then tied the game in the 67th minute before taking the lead back 3 minutes later off freshman keeper Anna Yeakey. Yeakey would end up making four saves on 6 shots on goal while junior keeper Alicia Jacobs also made one save in relief as SVU won the second half shot count 8-4. Nichols led Wesleyan in shots with four while senior forward Sarah Cook had two shots on goal as well.

The women are next in action next weekend when they head to New Jersey for a pair of games. they will play Rutgers University of Camden on Saturday at 11 AM and Stockton on Sunday at 1:00.
