Lady Bishops Shut Out Averett

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 shutout win over conference rival Averett University at home on Saturday afternoon.

Senior forward Sarah Cook led the Bishops with two goals including one in the opening 30 seconds of the game. Cook scored her second goal and the team's third in the 21st minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Emily Puentes. Junior defender Naniiya Brown, scored prior to Cook's first goal as she hit the back of the net from about 20 yards out as the Lady Bishops would go into the break up 3-0 while outshooting the Cougars 10-1 in the first half.

The Bishops then extended their lead to 4-0 with a goal from junior MF Madison Stace off a Madison Sullivan assist in the 68th minute. Wesleyan then finished off their shutout win with their fifth goal of the match, this time by Sullivan unassisted in the 70th minute.

Wesleyan outshot the Cougars 24-3 overall in improving to 2-5 and 1-0 in the conference while Averett falls to 0-10.

The Lady Bishops are next in action on Wednesday afternoon as they remain home to host rival Methodist at 4:00 PM.
