ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's soccer team came up with a huge upset win on Saturday afternoon defeating East Division leading Pfeiffer University 2-1.

Scoring goals for the Bishops were senior Sarah Cook and junior Cydney Nichols

Even as the Bishops were being outshot 13-4 in the first half, Cook still got Wesleyan the lead by scoring the only goal of the half unassisted in the 26th minute of play. It was her 7th goal of the season.

Nichols then scored the game-winning goal just 58 seconds into the second half to give the Bishops just enough cushion for the win. Nichols scored off a terrific assist from sophomore midfielder Khristel Thompson for her 9th goal of the year.

Pfeiffer would trim Wesleyan's lead to one scoring their goal in the 50th minute of action, but the Bishops would hold off the Falcons the rest of the way holding them to just 6 shots in the win.

Junior goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs played another terrific game making 7 saves on 8 shots on goal for the win as Wesleyan improves to 5-9 on the year and 3-4 in the division while Pfeiffer fell to 10-4 and 6-1 in the East.

Wesleyan will now have a week off until going on the road to face Greensboro College next Saturday at 1:00 PM.
