Bishops Open Up Season In Rout Against Grace Christian

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The North Carolina Wesleyan University women's soccer team won 9-0 at their own Scalf Field defeating Grace Christian University in their season opener on Thursday.

Makaela Stokes, the junior transfer from Raleigh, NC, put the Battling Bishops on the board with the first goal of the game at the 22-minute mark. The Battling Bishops would add 3 more goals to finish the first half 4-0 with scores coming from Caitlyn Butler, the sophomore from Remington, VA, Claire Bailey, the senior from Montclair, VA, and Stokes again.

NCWU found their rhythm again to start the second half with an early score by Claire Bailey at the 46-minute mark. Bailey would then add 2 more goals in the game to add to her season opener haul. 

Battling Bishop Anna Yeakey, the goalkeeper from Wake Forest, NC, made one save on one shot on goal. Overall, the Battling Bishops had thirty-three shots on goal, with nine goals.

NCWU will travel to Raleigh on Friday, September 2 to play Bob Jones in day two of the NCWU-Meredith Classic.
