Wesleyan Cross Country Wraps Up Season at USA South Meet

Pleasant Garden, N.C. - Wesleyan's cross country squad wrapped up the 2015 season on Saturday at the USA South Championship meet. The Bishops, who placed 10th overall, were awarded the league's team sportsmanship trophy for the first time in program history.

NCWC All-Sportsmanship representative Florencia Sorrentino paced the Bishops with a team-best time of 31:02, which placed her 54th among 81 runners competiting. Freshman Sarah Grossman crossed the finish line in 33:54, with Hannah Ivester just 35 seconds behind her. Ana Diaz (35:11) and Leigh Hales (37:40) rounded out Wesleyan's competitors.

As a team, the Bishops fell just two points behind William Peace and seven points behind Averett in the standings. Ferrum fell below NCWC after failing to qualify.

The 6K event was held at Hagan Stone Park near Greensboro. Meredith College took top team honors, while LaGrange's Sarah Bearden earned medalist honors with a time of 23:54.
