Demorest, Ga. - N.C. Wesleyan's cross country team wrapped up its 2016 season on Saturday at the USA South Championship meet hosted by Piedmont College. The Battling Bishops finished 12th overall in the team standings.

Wesleyan was paced by sophomore Sarah Grossman's 6K time of 32:27, which was nearly three minutes better than her 6K time at the start of the season. Hannah Ivester finished behind her teammate at 35:45, followed by Jade' Jordan at 38:36. Like Grossman, Jordan also showed marked improvement by shaving nearly two minutes off her prior 6K time. Maria Castillo and Leigh Hales clocked in at just over 38 minutes to complete NCWC's scorers.

Host Piedmont took home the team trophy, while the Lions' Reese Bowles earned Runner of the Year honors and posted a meet-best time of 23:43.

Previously on Wednesday, the Bishops ran their lone dual meet of the season at the University of Mt. Olive. The Trojans came out on top in the team standings, but Grossman recorded a career-best 5K time of 24:34... just five seconds shy of the program's dual-meet record. For her efforts this season, Grossman was honored as N.C. Wesleyan's representative on the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team.

Congrats to all our runners on a great fall!
