Alston, Marshall Earn First Team All-Conference Nods

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference released its 2013 postseason football awards this week, with a total of 65 student-athletes being recognized. A trio of Battling Bishops earned accolades, highlighted by First Team honors for running back Jacques Alston and defensive back Travonne Marshall. Additionally, sophomore quarterback Dustin Midgett was named to the league's All-Sportsmanship team.

A junior from Kenly, N.C., Jacques Alston turned in a phenominal year in the backfield, setting a new program-record for rushing yards with 1,234 on the season. Among his six 100+ yard games were four of 150+ yards, including the program's third highest single-game tally of 205 yards versus Ferrum. Alston led the conference in rushing yards (1,234), yards per game (137.1) and yards per carry (6.7) this season, scoring a team-high 10 touchdowns in the process.

A freshman from Tarboro, N.C., Travonne Marshall recorded 62 tackles this season and recorded a team-high three interceptions and two forced fumbles. Marshall's 49 solo tackles were also a team-best and ranked fifth in the league, while his three picks tied for third in the conference. He returned those three interceptions for a team-best 40 yards.

Elsewhere around the league, Methodist University's Max Reber was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while LaGrange College's Marsalis Jackson earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. The LaGrange duo of Andre Carter and Jordan Chambers were named Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year, respectively, and Maryville College's Mike Rader rounded out the major award winners as Coach of the Year.
