Greensboro, NC – The North Carolina Wesleyan Football team traveled to Greensboro College to face the Pride and brought back the 35-14 victory while finalizing their football season with a conference win.
The first quarter started with a successful 6-play drive capped off with a 4-yard touchdown run by Trevon Crank.
The second quarter saw the Bishops on the scoreboard again with a 7-play drive complete with a 32-yard touchdown pass from the junior quarterback, Devon Brooks, from Raleigh, NC, to Elijah Love. The Pride would reply in the last drive of the second quarter with a 12-play, 91-yard scoring drive finalized with a 2-yard touchdown pass to take the score to 14-7 going into halftime.
The good part of the third quarter saw the Bishops and Pride trading blows between both sides of the ball until the Bishops answered the call with a 4-play drive and a 47-yard touchdown run once again by Trevon Crank, putting the Bishops up 21-7. Greensboro replied on the following series with a quick 5-play drive capped off by a 16-yard rushing touchdown, leaving the score at 21-14 to open up the fourth quarter.
The Bishops' defense put a dagger in the Pride in the fourth quarter after two interceptions both resulting in touchdowns, giving the Bishops the momentum to seal the deal. The first of the two scoring interceptions was two minutes into the fourth quarter by Benyon Williams, the Junior standout from Tampa, FL, returning a 100-yard interception making the score 28-14. Following Williams' lead with 7:20 left in the game, Luke Moorhead, the Senior from Monroe, GA, ended his defensive career with the second scoring interception of 20 yards and 5 solo tackles.
On the offensive side of the ball, Trevon Crank, the Sophmore from Belmont, NC, finished the game with 29 carries for 175 yards and two touchdowns, while Elijah Love, the junior from Gastonia, NC, was the top receiving target with three receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown.
The Battling Bishops finalized the 2022 football season with a big win against the Greensboro Pride, bringing the Bishops to a 3-4 record in the USA South Conference standings.
