Football Picks up Third Straight USA South Defensive Player of the Week

The 2019 NC Wesleyan College Football program has won their third consecutive USA South Football Defensive Player of the Week award that was announced on Monday by the conference. This time, senior middle linebacker Antonio Johnson picked up the win. Junior DB/K Eddie Graham had won the most recent Defensive Player of the Week awards for the Bishops.

 Antonio Johnson, N.C. Wesleyan - The Beaufort, North Carolina senior linebacker totaled a game-high 15 tackles and returned a fumble he forced for a touchdown in a 41-24 loss to USA South rival Averett last week. Johnson accumulated five solo tackles and ten assisted take downs while his 82-yard touchdown brought the Bishops within ten points in the fourth quarter. Additionally, Johnson blocked an Averett field goal attempt in the second quarter as well. 

Johnson beat out six other nominees for the award, his second of the season as he previously won on Sept. 9 for helping the Bishops upend Emory & Henry that week.

Wesleyan, 3-3, will next be in action this Saturday at 1:00 when they return home to take on Brevard College at Rocky Mount Stadium.
