Football Sweeps Athlete of the Week Awards

The NC Wesleyan College Football team swept all three of the USA South Conference Player of the Week awards for November 4 for the Bishops' 48-24 win over rival Methodist last Saturday. RB Jeff Black won for offensive, LB Antonio Johnson won for defensive and WR/KR Kevin Alford won for Special Teams.

The Bishops improve to 4-4 on the season and 3-2 in the conference with the win and will next return to action on the road at Huntingdon College this Saturday in Alabama.

*However, the team will return home on November 16 for Senior Day to host Maryville back on campus at the Vernon T. Bradley Practice Complex. Game begins at Noon.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Jeff Black, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior running back from Atlanta, Georgia had a team-high 119 yards with two touchdowns in a 48-24 win over USA South foe Methodist last week. Black carried the ball 20 times for an average of 6.0 yards per attempt and was responsible for the go-ahead touchdown at the end of the first quarter. This is Black's first career honor.

Football Defensive Player of the Week 
Antonio Johnson, N.C. Wesleyan - The Beaufort, North Carolina senior linebacker totaled a season-high 17 tackles, four of which were for a loss, a forced fumble and an interception in a 48-24 win over USA South rival Methodist last week. Johnson had nine solo tackles and eight assisted take downs and returned his interception 72 yards to set up a Battling Bishop touchdown. This is Johnson's third DPOW award this season.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Kevin Alford, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore kick returner from Charlotte, North Carolina took his first return of the day 92 yards for a touchdown to help pave the way for a 48-24 win over USA South foe Methodist last week. Methodist jumped out to an early 7-0 first quarter lead when Alford grabbed back the momentum on the ensuing kickoff with his score. This is Alford's first career honor.
