ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Football team fell 36-7 in their home opener to ODAC foe Emory & Henry College on Sunday afternoon as they played in honor of their teammate, #73 Matthew Clemmons, who passed away on Thursday.

Wesleyan used their emotion and courage to drive right down the field in 66 yards on their first possession to go up 7-0 early on the Wasps. The 6-play drive ended with sophomore QB Storm Yarbrough completing a 14-yard pass to senior WR Kevin Alford.

Wesleyan then held the Wasps scoreless throughout the rest of the first quarter including forcing a fumble on their own 2 that ended a long drive by EHC.

However, E&H would get on the board as they ran a 20-yard interception back for a touchdown early in the 2nd quarter. E&H would then add two more touchdowns in the quarter to lead 19-7 at the break. E&H added 17 more points in the second half en route to their first win.

Wesleyan totaled 16 first downs and 166 yards passing on the afternoon led by 49 yards receiving by senior WR Trey Blackwell. Senior RB Jeff Black also rushed for 49 yards and had 50 return yards. Alford totaled 61 yards on kickoff returns and 29 receiving.

Defensively, sophomore safety Benyon Williams led Wesleyan with 8 total tackles and six solo while linebacker Charles Sias had 6 tackles and a sack. Sophomore linebacker Jimmy Hayden also totaled 8 tackles while senior DE Rob Carley registered 8 tackles as well and 2 tackles-for-loss. Fellow safety RJ Carter made 7 tackles and recovered a fumble.

The Bishops, now 0-1, will next remain at home to host Shenandoah University in their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday at Noon from the Vernon T. Bradley Complex.
