Bishops Edged Out in Final Non-Conference Game

Rocky Mount, NC - On Saturday, September 17th, the Battling Bishops lost their home opener against the Eagles. It was a hard-fought game ending in a 48-7 loss to Old Dominion Academic Conference (ODAC) member Bridgewater College. Making the first start of his Wesleyan career, quarterback Jonathan Hill was able to complete a 47-yard touchdown pass to Freshman Tyree Byrd to get NC Wesleyan on the board in the second quarter; Hill, a Rocky Mount native, finished with 150yds on ten completions.  Anthony Byrd lead the Bishop's ground attack, amassing 50yds on 12 carries.

The defensive side of the NC Wesleyan Football Team was very active through the entirety of the game. Charles Sias stood out for the Battling Bishops, finishing with ten tackles and one sack. TJ Payne also contributed 1 sack on two tackles.

It was an exciting day on NCWU's campus, as the Bishops christened the brand new Stallings Field, at the Vernon T. Bradley, Jr. Stadium, with an outstanding crowd and great community support.

The Battling Bishops travel to Lexington, Virginia in their first USA South Conference matchup versus the Southern Virginia University Knights. Kick-off is set for 1:00pm.
