NCWC Women Drop Non-Conference Pair over Weekend

Farmville, Va. / Rocky Mount, N.C. - The NCWC women's basketball team dropped a pair of non-conference games over the weekend, falling at D-I Longwood University on Saturday and dropping a home contest to Berry College on Sunday.

At Longwood on Saturday, the Bishops got a season-high 20 points from junior Kenyata Harris but fell 100-57. LC used its size to out-score Wesleyan 48-22 in the paint and and forge a 60-42 advantage on the boards.

Sunday's game versus Berry was a much tighter contest that saw the Vikings (6-3) take a 28-22 lead into the half. In the third quarter, a lay-up by sophomore KeChae Parker got the Bishops as close a 33-32 with 3:01 to go, but an 11-3 Viking run to close out the period gave them a 9-point advantage heading into the fourth.

Berry (6-3) went on to lead by as many 13 in the final ten minutes as the Bishops struggled to convert scoring opportunities.  NCWC shot just over 26 percent in the game (20-for-76) but stayed close by getting off 29 more shots than the Vikings, who connected on 50 percent of their attempts (24-for-48) en route to the 62-50 victory.

Parker led the Bishops with a team-high 12 points, while junior Timyra Staton pulled down nine rebounds. Parker and Harris also chipped in three steals apiece.

Wesleyan (3-4) will play its final game before breaking for the holidays on Tuesday at USA South foe Piedmont College. Tip-off is slated for 5:00pm.
