Wesleyan trailed 21-16 after the first quarter, but then turned up the defensive intensity holding the Marlins to only 5 points in the second frame (16 percent shooting) by outscoring them 13-5 to take a 29-26 halftime lead.

The Bishops would then stay in front throughout the third until VWU (1-5) tied them at 42-all near the end of the third. Wesleyan then went on a 7-0 run to end the frame and would never relinquish the lead the rest of the way. NCWC used a technical foul on VW near the end of the fourth to make 4 consecutive free throws to increase their advantage from 7 to 11 and essentially ice the game away.

Junior forward Myrayna Watkins led the Bishops with 18 points on the game while also adding 7 rebounds. Senior guard Jermaiyah Baker also posted 10 points with 3 assists while junior guard Cydney Nichols capped off the win by being the 5th member in double-figures with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Junior forward Kneciya Tripp also added a team-best six steals along with 6 rebounds.

Wesleyan shot just 34 percent for the game overall, but was an impressive 16 of 18 (89%) from the free-throw line and scored 17 points off 18 Marlin turnovers which helped carry them to the win.

They will next hit the road to battle Mary Washington University (Va.) on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
