Women Crush Methodist at Home

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team steamrolled their way past conference rival Methodist University 93-44 on Saturday afternoon in Rocky Mount.

The Bishops improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference with the win dropping MU to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Wesleyan scored 24 points in each quarter of the first half en route to shooting 53 percent in the first half, including 60 percent in the second quarter to take a commanding 48-27 halftime lead.

The Bishops then came out with 24 more in the third quarter as they played terrific defense holding the Monarchs to just 4 points and 16.7 percent shooting to take a 72-31 lead into the fourth.

NCWC also won the fourth quarter 21-13 to grab the nearly 50-point win. Wesleyan shot 50 percent for the game led by junior forward Myrayna Watkins' team-high of 20 points and 9 rebounds.

Junior guard Kayla Johnson also played well scoring 16 points with 4 rebounds, an assist and a block while junior forward Kneciya Tripp fell a rebound shy of a double-double posting totals of 10 points and 9 rebounds with 2 steals. Freshman forward Kayrisma Harrison also finished in double-figure scoring with 14 points and 5 rebounds while junior guard Cydney Nichols was the final Bishop to score double-digits finishing with 11 points, 2 steals, and 2 assists.

Junior point guard Keorra Taylor led in steals with 4 along with 3 assists while freshman guard Nyesha Best posted 4 assists and 4 rebounds while they both combined for 9 points. Shooting guards Leah Wright and Myesha Best also scored 6 and 7 points respectively as the Bishops had a balanced scoring day overall.

Wesleyan will next take to the floor on Wednesday when they go on the road to battle conference foe Averett (Va.) at 4:00 PM for their last game before Christmas.
