Women's Basketball Rolls Past SUNY-Canton for Third Place

MARIETTA, OH - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team cruised to a third-place win 78-51 over SUNY-Canton on Monday afternoon in the consolation game of the Jim Meagle Holiday Tournament hosted by Marietta College.

Wesleyan improves to 8-3 on the season and returns to action at home this coming Saturday at 2:00 PM when they host conference foe, Mary Baldwin University.

Junior guard Kayla Johnson was named to the All-Tournament Team as she led the Bishops with a game-high 19 points along with a team-best five three-pointers.

Wesleyan scored 20 points in each of the first two quarters in rolling to a 40-22 halftime lead as they held Canton (0-12) to just 9 points in the second frame.

Wesleyan stayed consistent in the second half scoring 19 points in the third and 4th quarters outscoring the Kangaroos 38-29 in the half for the big win. Wesleyan made 30 shots overall shooting over 40 percent from the field along with nine three-pointers.

Junior forward Myrayna Watkins also tallied a solid game scoring 12 points and 8 rebounds with a team-high 3 steals and a block. Fellow forward, freshman Kayrisma Harrison was also in double-figure scoring with 15 points and a team-high 9 rebounds on 7 of 12 shooting along with 2 steals and a team-best two blocks.

Junior point guard Keorra Taylor led the team with a season-high of 10 assists along with her 4 points and 3 rebunds while the Best sisters also played well with point guard Nyesha Best scoring 6 points with 4 assists while sister Myesha tallied 8 points. Junior forward Kneciya Tripp also scored 6 points and brought down 8 rebounds with 2 steals.
