Women Cruise Past Pfeiffer on the Road

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team rolled to a conference win on the road Sunday defeating Pfeiffer University (N.C.) 78-63.

The Bishops improve to 11-4 on the season and 6-1 in the conference with their weekend wins. It is their most wins since the 2017-18 season as they have already equaled their win total from last season. Pfeiffer falls to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Junior guard Kayla Johnson again led the Bishops by scoring her new season-high of 28 points in the win. She also added 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal as she went 11 of 20 from the field with four 3-pointers.

Wesleyan started off on fire scoring 29 points in the first quarter alone as they took a 29-17 lead into the second frame. They then put up 18 more points in the second to lead 47-31 at halftime.

NCWC kept up the momentum in the third quarter outscoring the Falcons 17-11 as their defense also played well as Wesleyan extended their lead to 64-42. They would then cruise to the 15-point win shooting 44 percent for the game and 100 percent from the free-throw line.

Also playing well was freshman forward Kayrisma Harrison who scored 14 points with 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double. Junior forward Myrayna Watkins also finished in double-figure scoring as she had 13 points with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

On the guard side, junior Keorra Taylor led in assists with four while adding 6 points and 5 rebounds while fellow junior Cydney Nichols added 7 points off the bench with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Bishops next return to action at home on Wednesday when they host Greensboro College at 7:00 PM.
