Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Kayla Johnson, N.C. Wesleyan - The Annapolis, Maryland junior guard averaged 23.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game as the Battling Bishops posted a 2-1 record on the road last week against USA South competition. In a 73-66 loss to William Peace, Johnson tallied 16 points and six rebounds. In a 73-72 overtime win over Meredith, Johnson totaled 27 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. Finally, in a 78-63 victory over Pfeiffer, Johnson scored 28 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out two assists and gathered one steal.

Johnson is currently averaging 17.8 points/game on the season to rank third in the conference. She is also shooting nearly 36 percent on 3-pointers to rank 5th in the USA South.

Johnson has helped lead Wesleyan to its best start (12-4) since 2002 and have already surpassed their win total from last season (11). The Bishops are also sitting 2nd in the East Division at 7-1 in the conference, a half game back of undefeated first place William Peace (13-2, 6-0).

She will next lead the Bishops back into action on Saturday afternoon when they go on the road to face Methodist at 2:00 PM from Fayetteville.
