Bishop Women Continue to Roll, Defeat Greensboro by 12

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team rallied in the second half and rolled to a 80-68 victory over quality USA South foe Greensboro College on Wednesday night in Rocky Mount.

Current conference Player of the Week, junior guard Kayla Johnson, again led the Bishops with a game-high of 24 points on 8 of 19 shooting with 4 three-pointers made. She also added 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

The Bishops now improve to 12-4 on the season and 7-1 in the conference, their best start since 2001-02 season.

Wesleyan got out to a fast start leading 34-18 midway through the first half before GC closed the half on a 14-4 run to trim NCWC's lead down to six at the break.

Greensboro (8-5, 5-2) then continued their run to begin the third quarter starting off on a 20-7 run to lead 52-45 with 2:45 to play in the third. However, the Bishops would not be denied and went on a big 12-2 run themselves to close the third with a 57-54 lead. Wesleyan then continued their momentum with a 10-2 run to start the fourth quarter as Wesleyan would go on to outscore the Pride 23-14 in the quarter.

Wesleyan shot nearly 45 percent for the game and 37.5 percent from three while their defense held GC to just 29 percent shooting and 28.6 percent from three.

Junior forward Myrayna Watkins also played well finishing with 15 points and 8 rebounds with 2 assists and a steal while freshman guard Nyesha Best shot 5 of 6 for 13 points along with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

Wesleyan also out-rebounded the Pride 59-46 led by 13 rebounds apiece from junior forward Kneciya Tripp and freshman forward Kayrisma Harrison. They each scored 6 points apiece as well in the win. Junior guard Keorra Taylor led the Bishops with five assists.

The women return to action on Saturday when they make the short trek to Fayetteville to battle Methodist University at 2:00 PM.
