Women Rally in Second Half to Oust Meredith

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team rallied in the second half to put away conference rival, Meredith College, 66-55 to pick up their 5th straight win on Wednesday.

Wesleyan (14-4) continues their best start since 2002 by picking up their 14th win and are now 9-1 in the conference. It is also the most single season wins since 2002 as well.

Junior guard Kayla Johnson again led the Bishops with 22 points, her 6th 20-point game of the season, along with 3 steals and 3 assists.

Freshman forward Kayrisma Harrison also had a big game scoring 13 points with 8 rebounds, a season-high of 6 steals, and a block while junior forward Myrayna Watkins added a team-best and season-high of 13 rebounds with 9 points and 3 steals.

After trailing 32-30 at the break, Wesleyan stormed back in the second half going on a 16-3 run to end the third quarter after getting down by nine early in the half. Wesleyan then outscored the Angels 20-13 in the fourth quarter using some timely baskets by multiple players and 15 free throws to put away Meredith. 

Wesleyan shot 34 percent for the game while holding Meredith (7-12, 3-7) to just 16 percent from outside the arc while outscoring them 36-23 in the second half.

Freshman guard Nyesha Best also scored 6 points with 4 rebounds while junior guard Keorra Taylor led with 5 assists along with 5 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal.

The Bishops will return to action on Saturday when they remain home to host conference leader William Peace University (8-0, USA South) at 4:00 PM in the second game of a doubleheader with the men.
