Watkins Named USA South Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Women's Basketball Player of the Week

N.C. Wesleyan College women's basketball junior Myrayna Watkins was named as the USA South Conference Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Myrayna Watkins, N.C. Wesleyan - The Clayton, North Carolina junior forward averaged a double-double of 20 points and 10.5 rebounds to go along with 2.5 assists and 2 steals per game as the Bishops posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South competition.

In a 70-66 win over Pfeiffer, Watkins totaled 18 points, nine rebounds and two assists. In a 111-36 victory over Salem, Watkins notched a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds with four steals, three assists and one block. The 22 points and 4 steals were each season-highs for Watkins as she beat out 12 other nominees for the win.

She is currently averaging 13 points and 8 rebounds for the season as she has helped the Bishops get off to a 16-5 overall start and an 11-2 conference record, as they currently sit in 2nd place in the East Division.

She will next lead the Bishops into a road game at Greensboro College this Saturday at 4:00 Pm.
