Wesleyan Women Fall at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team dropped their exhibition game on the road at D-1 High Point University on Wednesday evening falling 108-71.

A high-scoring first quarter saw the Panthers lead just 28-21 before they pulled away in the second quarter 29-15 to take a 57-36 halftime lead.

The third quarter then got away from teh Bishops as HPU ran away with it. However, Wesleyan did not quit and came back to take the fourth quarter 25-20.

Wesleyan shot 42 percent for the game but only 16 percent from the three-point arc while HPU shot52 percent overall and 47 percent from three making 18 treys.

Sophomore Kayrisma Harrison led the Bishops with 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting along with 7 rebounds, 2 steals and a block.

Senior forward Myrayna Watkins also played well scoring 13 points with a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double along with 3 assists and a steal. Senior guard Kayla Johnson then led the team with 3 three-pointers and finished with 11 points while fellow senior guard Cydney Nichols led the team with 6 assists.

Off the bench, junior forward Javana Jones scored 8 points with 4 rebounds and 2 blocks while freshman Nadia Simmons scored 6 points as well.

The women will now finish their pre-break schedule with another Division 1 game at the College of Charleston on Friday at 4 PM.
