Women Roll Past Greensboro

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team rolled to a weekend sweep of conference foe Greensboro College on Sunday as they cruised to a 91-53 victory.

Wesleyan got off to a very strong start leading 25-9 after the first quarter before keeping up the offensive pressure in the second quarter to dominate that one 26-13. Wesleyan shot 42 percent in the first half and led 51-22 at the break.

The women then shot an impressive 60 percent in the third quarter while holding the Pride to just 23.5 percent shooting as the Bishops took a 76-36 lead. Wesleyan coach Artina Trader then gave her six talented freshmen some quality fourth quarter minutes as the Bishops shot 41 percent and grabbed the big 38-point win.

Senior guard Kayla Johnson led first-place NCWC with 15 points as the Bishops improved to 8-1 on the year and 6-0 in the conference.

Freshmen Johnay Goddard and guard Deonna Adams each scored 11 points as well to set their new season-highs in points while Goddard also added 7 rebounds and two steals. Freshman G/F Nadia Simmons also scored 9 points with 3 rebounds while senior forward Myrayna Watkins put up 9 points with a block as well.

Senior guard Keorra Taylor chipped in 8 points with two assists while sophomore forward Kayrisma Harrison led with two blocks along with 7 rebounds and 5 points. Junior forward Javana Jones led Wesleyan with 8 rebounds and assisted on three buckets while sophomore guard Nyesha Best scored 7 points.

NCWC returns to action next Friday when they remain home to host Averett University at 7:30 PM.
