Bishop Women Coast Past Meredith for Regular Season Title

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team coasted to a thorough domination of conference rival Meredith College 95-48 on Senior Night Friday evening.

With the win, Wesleyan grabs the #1 seed and regular season East Division Championship improving to 13-1 overall and 11-0 in the division.

Wesleyan cruised past a depleted Meredith squad (5-2) by outscoring them by double digits in every quarter. They held the Angels to just 9 points in the first quarter and only 15 in the second en route to a 44-24 halftime lead. They then dominated the third quarter 26-14 and the fourth 25-10 to grab the 47-point win.

Senior wing Myrayna Watkins led the Bishops with 17 points and 10 rebounds on the night while senior guard Cydney Nichols also played well scoring 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting with 3 rebounds and a block. 

Guards Myesha Best and freshman Nadia Simmons also each scored double digits off the bench with Best scoring a season-high of 11 points while Simmons added 10 points. Freshman forward Johnay Goddard then tallied 6 points and 8 rebounds in just 10 minutes of action while sophomore forward Kayrisma Harrison led the team with 3 steals along with 9 rebounds, 4 points, 2 assists and a block. 

Sophomore guard Nyesha Best tallied season-highs in points and assists on Friday as well scoring 10 points and assisting on six buckets.

Senior point guard Keorra Taylor led the Bishops with 6 assists along with 2 steals and 3 points on the night while fellow senior, forward Kenciya Tripp scored 6 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Senior wing Javana Jones also blocked a shot, picked up two steals, assisted on three buckets and pulled down 7 rebounds. 

The Bishops will now head to Raleigh to finish the regular season at Meredith College on Sunday at 2 PM.
