Women's Basketball's Win Streak Snapped in Loss to Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball saw their 15-game win streak come to an end on Saturday in their 66-57 loss to West Division contender Piedmont University (Ga.).

Wesleyan and Piedmont were tied at 16 apiece after one quarter before a 19-15 edge from the Lady Lions in the second gave them a 35-31 lead at the break.

Piedmont then outscored the Bishops 18-13 in the third quarter to go up 53-44 heading into the fourth, but the Bishop women could not cut into the lead as each team managed just 12 points apiece in the quarter. Wesleyan shot 32 percent for the game and 35 percent from three while Piedmont shot 45 percent overall.

Junior guard Myesha Best led the Bishops with 9 points on 3 of 6 shooting from behind-the-arc while junior forward Kayrisma Harrison scored 7 points and a team-best 13 rebounds and 3 steals.

Senior guard Kayla Johnson and sophomore wing Nadia Simmons also scored 6 points apiece with Simmons then adding 6 rebounds and 2 steals as well. Senior wing Javana Jones also added 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal off the bench while guards Areina Harris and Nyesha Best each scored 5 points each off the bench as well. Nyesha and Keorra Taylor also led the team with 4 assists apiece.

Piedmont improves to 4-0 with the win while Wesleyan falls to 2-1. The Bishops will now return home on Tuesday afternoon to host Lynchburg College at 4:00 PM.
