Bishop Women Fall at Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team lost thier makeup game at conference leader Southern Virginia University on Friday night falling 74-62.

SVU  got off to a strong start leading 24-15 after the first quarter before the Bishops rallied some in the second taking it 20-18 to trail 42-35 at the halftime break.

A low-scoring second half saw the Knights keep the Bishop women at bay outscoring them 32-27 to grab the 12-point win. SVU shot 45 percent for the game while the Bishops managed to shoot just 31 percent as both teams struggled from long-range.

SVU also shot 88 percent from the charity stripe helping them to the win as they improve to 9-0 in the conference and 13-3 overall. Wesleyan fell to 9-9 overall and 7-4 in the East Division.

Junior shooting guard Myesha Best led the Bishops with 13 points on four 3-pointers in her first game back in a few weeks. Senior guards Kayla Johnson and Keorra Taylor also combined for 24 points scoring 12 apiece while they also combined for six steals grabbing three each. Taylor added a team-best 4 assists as well.

Junior forward Kayrisma Harrison also scored 6 points with 6 rebounds while blocking two shots and grabbing two steals while fellow forward Johnay Goddard also scored 6 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.

Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow to host Mary Baldwin at 2:00 PM from Everett Gymnasium.
