NCWC Women's Strong Second Half Too Much for Pfeiffer

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team used a dominating second half to put away conference foe Pfeiffer University 75-62 at home Sunday afternoon.

The Bishops held just a slim 33-30 lead after a low-scoring first half before Wesleyan went on to outscore the Falcons 42-32 in the second half to grab the 13-point win. Wesleyan improves to 12-10 overall while going to 10-5 in the East Division to remain in 3rd place.

Wesleyan went on to shoot 31% overall for the game, but about 36 percent in the second half while holding Pfeiffer (11-14, 7-10) to under 30% at 27 percent for the game and only 10 percent in the fourth outscoring them 19-12. Both teams struggled from three for the game combining for just 10 treys. 

NCW put three ladies in double-figure scoring for the game including a double-double off the bench from senior wing Javana Jones as she scored 10 points and blocked a shot while bringing down a season-high 14 rebounds and grabbing three steals. The Bishops totaled a season-high of 72 rebounds in the win as well.

Also scoring in double-digits was fellow forward, sophomore Nadia Simmons with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a block while senior guard Keorra Taylor tallied 12 points and 4 assists. Taylor has now scored double-digit points in 3 of her past 5 games and assisted on at least 4 baskets in 9 of her past 10 games. 

Sophomore guard Deonna Adams also registered a solid game scoring 8 points to go with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, a block, and a team-best four steals. Senior guard Kayla Johnson recorded 8 points as well with 4 assists while junior forward K-Dot Harrison finished with 19 rebounds along with 6 points and 3 blocks. Guards Nyesha Best and Areina Harris also combined for 12 points with best assisting on two others.

The Bishops, coming off 3 wins in their past four games, will now head on the road for two makeup games next week. They will first head to Virginia to challenge 5th place Mary Baldwin on Tuesday at 6 PM before going to Raleigh on Friday evening to face William Peace.
