Women’s Basketball Win Big In Season Opener

Rocky Mount, NC – The Jean Edge Classic commenced earlier this evening at North Carolina Wesleyan, and the Battling Bishops women's basketball team opened up their season against Mid Atlantic Christian University with an 89-36 win.

The first quarter went back and forth between the Battling Bishops and the Mustangs which kept both teams on their toes; however, they were able to seal the deal and gain some confidence into the second quarter with the Bishops leading 20-16. 

Midway through the second quarter, the Battling Bishops went on an 8-0 run that proved too much for the Mustangs, bringing the halftime score to 38-28.

The third quarter began with a 12-0 scoring advantage over the Mustangs for the Battling Bishops while taking the lead to 50-26. The Mustangs finally managed to put up their first points late in the second half, ending the 3rd quarter with the Bishops on top with a score of 65-34.

The fourth quarter began much like that in the third quarter for the Bishops seeing another 16-0 run, ultimately sealing the deal with final score of 89-36.

The game saw four Battling Bishops who scored in the double digits and two of the other lady Bishops having double-doubles. Junior, Johnay Goddard, finished the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Following Goddard's lead was freshman, Kaniya Cromartie, who finished the game with an impressive 14 points and 15 rebounds.

The Battling Bishops will face Carolina University on day two of the Jean Edge Classic tomorrow, November 12th, at 4:00 PM on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan University.
