Bishops Fall to No 2 Christopher Newport in Sunday Afternoon Matchup

Newport News, VA – The North Carolina Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team traveled north to Newport News to face off against the Captains of Christopher Newport and came up short by a score of 110 to 57.

Christopher Newport got off to a great start shooting 14 of 18 for 77% from the floor and 4 of 5 for 80% from behind the arc in the first quarter to take a 35 to 16 lead going into the second quarter.

TheBattling Bishops shot 7 of 15 for 46% from the floor and 1 of 5 for 20% from behind the arc in the second quarter to bring the score to 61 to 31 going into halftime.

The Captains would come out of the half to score 34 points in the 3rd quarter shooting 72% from the floor and 66% from behind the arc.

NCWU would finish strong in the 4th quarter scoring 18 points to bring the final score to 110-57.

Leading scorer for the Battling Bishops was Corynthian Williams, the sophomore forward from Williamsburg, VA, scoring 11 points with a 4 of 5 shooting performance from the floor and 1 of 1 for 100% behind the arc. Battling Bishops freshman, Kaniya Cromartie,  the forward from Smithfield, VA, scored 9 points off a 3 of 5 shooting performance from the floor, while adding an impressive 14 rebounds.
