The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2013-2014 Academic All-Conference Team, and North Carolina Wesleyan College is pleased to announce that 84 Battling Bishops have garnered recognition, marking the highest total in school history!
The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics hosted its 49th Annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 23rd, in Minges Auditorium of the Dunn Center. Coaches, staff and student-athletes came together to celebrate the accomplishments of both individuals and teams from the 2013-2014 season.
The USA South Athletic Conference has released its postseason awards for women's tennis, with a total of 30 student-athletes being recognized. N.C. Wesleyan had two players garner accolades, led by freshman Natalia Lopez who was named to the league's First Team and became just the second Bishop in history to earn Rookie of the Year honors. Joining her as an honoree was sophomore Katie Beeman, who picks up her second straight All-Sportsmanship award.
The Battling Bishop women's tennis team saw its 2014 season come to an end on Saturday with a pair of USA South losses at Huntingdon and LaGrange by 7-2 and 5-2 scores, respectively. NCWC freshman Natalia Lopez played a part in a trio of the Battling Bishops' points, tallying a pair of wins at #1 singles to go along with a win at #1 doubles.
The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for March 24th, and for the second straight week and third time overall, Wesleyan's Natalia Lopez and Elias Kerem of tennis were named the league's Rookies of the Week. Additionally, in a first for Bishop tennis, Lopez was tabbed the conference's Player of the Week as a freshman.
The Battling Bishop women's tennis team played a trio of USA South matches this week, highlighted by Wednesday's 5-4 victory over Greensboro College. Wesleyan went on to drop 8-1 and 7-2 decisions to Piedmont and Covenant on Friday and Saturday, respectively, with freshman Natalia Lopez once again going undefeated in singles play. Lopez, in fact, has yet to drop a set this season.

The men's and women's tennis teams of North Carolina Wesleyan turned in a USA South sweep of Ferrum College on Saturday afternoon on the road. The Battling Bishop women moved to 2-2 on the season with a 5-2 win over the Panthers, while the NCWC men stayed undefeated in league play with a 9-0 shutout.
The 2013-14 season serves as the 50th for the USA South Athletic Conference. In an effort to relive 50 Years of great student-athlete performances, each current league institution was given the opportunity to submit names of student-athletes who competed within the Conference and excelled not only on their campuses, but in the Conference as a whole. The league has continued its recognition of these teams with the sport of women's tennis, and N.C. Wesleyan is proud to have placed five Bishop players on the squad.
Junior Peter Hviid won a third-set tiebreak 7-3 to help lift his Battling Bishop men's tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 victory at Methodist University on Tuesday afternoon in Fayetteville. Playing the #2 position, Hviid came from behind to down MU's Taylor Buchholz 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 to keep Wesleyan undefeated in USA South play at 3-0. On the women's side, the Bishops suffered a 7-2 loss to the defending champion Monarchs.
The men's and women's tennis teams of North Carolina Wesleyan split a pair of USA South matches with Maryville College on Sunday afternoon at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center. The Bishop men cruised to a 9-0 sweep of the Scots, surrendering just one game in the match. Maryville, however, tallied a 7-2 win on the women's side to secure the split.

First-year head coach Andres Amores picked up the first wins of his N.C. Wesleyan career on Friday afternoon, leading his Battling Bishop men and women to a sweep of Averett University in the USA South Conference opener for both squads. NCWC cruised to a 9-0 victory on the men's side, while the Bishops were 6-3 winners in women's action.
This past Saturday, the North Carolina Wesleyan men's and women's tennis teams welcomed high school players from Belmont Fitness and Racket Club for an invitational doubles tournament. The event consisted of mixed doubles matches between Wesleyan and Belmont players.
The USA South has released is preseason coaches' polls for men's and women's tennis. Under the direction of first-year head coach Andres Amores, the Battling Bishop men were picked to defend last year's regular season title, while Wesleyan's women were tabbed sixth in their respective poll.
September 11th is a time for remembering our fallen heroes from New York to Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C. It is also a time to recognize those local heroes that risk their lives daily to insure the safety of our Rocky Mount community. For this reason, the student-athletes of North Carolina Wesleyan annually honor our local policemen and firefighters by distributing season passes for all Battling Bishop sporting events.
