#2 Greensboro Rally Late to Upend #3 Bishop Women

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 3rd seeded NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team had their season come to an end on Tuesday night falling 85-77 on the road at #2 Greensboro College.

Greensboro, who is receiving votes in the most recent WBCA National Poll, improves to 25-1 on the year and will advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament this weekend. The Bishops finish their season at 15-11.

Junior forward Kayrisma Harrison led the Bishops with her 12th double-double of the season finishing with 12 points and 14 rebounds along with 2 blocks and a steal. Junior guard Myesha Best led the starters, however, with 16 points and 3 steals.

Senior guard Kayla Johnson led the team overall scoring 19 points with 5 three-pointers in just 19 minutes of action. Johnson now finishes his stellar Bishop career with 1,497 points, ranking 2nd all-time to Misty Carneal's 1,661 from 1998-2002. Johnson, however, finishes as the all-time leader in three-pointers attempted (753) and made (246).

Fellow guard, junior Nyesha Best also finished in double-figure scoring with 10 points and a team-high 3 assists. Senior Forward Javana Jones also played well leading the team with seven offensive rebounds and 12 overall while scoring 7 points and a block.

A high-scoring first quarter saw the Pride lead 28-22 before the Bishops clamped down on defense to dominate the second quarter to take it 20-9 and lead 42-37 at the break. GC would then rally in the third to win it 20-16 and trail just 58-57 heading into the fourth. However, GC would then outscore the Bishops 28-19 in the fourth to grab the win.

The Pride shot 42 percent for the game and an impressive 52 percent from three making 14 treys while holding the Bishops to just 34 percent from the field and 29% from three.

The Bishop women have now completed a three year run with a record of 49-18 and a 2021 East Division Championship.
