    The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics hosted its 49th Annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 23rd, in Minges Auditorium of the Dunn Center. Coaches, staff and student-athletes came together to celebrate the accomplishments of both individuals and teams from the 2013-2014 season.

  • Alston, Marshall Earn First Team All-Conference Nods

    The USA South Athletic Conference released its 2013 postseason football awards this week, with a total of 65 student-athletes being recognized. A trio of Battling Bishops earned accolades, highlighted by First Team honors for running back Jacques Alston and defensive back Travonne Marshall. Additionally, sophomore quarterback Dustin Midgett was named to the league's All-Sportsmanship team.
  • Edwards Breaks Receptions Record in Season Finale

    Senior wideout Greg Edwards entered Saturday's season finale at Methodist University needing just four catches to break N.C. Wesleyan's career receptions record. The senior from Fredericksburg, Va. wasted little time doing so, hauling in all four in the first half to eclipse former Bishop Orlando Webb's record of 171 receptions from 2006 to 2009. Edwards went on to catch four more passes in the second half to finish with 176 during his career. Unfortunately, the Bishops suffered a 69-62 loss to the host Monarchs in what will go down as the highest scoring game in program history.

    The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for November 4th, and two Battling Bishops earned honors in their respective sports. Freshman Travonne Marshall was tabbed the league's Defensive Rookie of the Week in football, while freshman Tori Stewart was named Rookie of the Week in volleyball.
  • Bishops Run Past Ferrum on Senior Day, 33-16

    North Carolina Wesleyan's football team posted a dominating 33-16 win over Ferrum College on Senior Day at Rocky Mount Athletic Stadium. Junior Jacques Alston racked up 205 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, while freshman Travonne Marshall tallied seven tackles and two picks to pace a Bishop defense that shut out the Panthers for three quarters.
  • Trio of Bishops Earn USA South Weekly Honors

    The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for October 28th, and three Battling Bishops earned honors in their respective sports. Senior Leifur Kristjansson and freshman teammate Daniel Kamdem were named Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week in men's soccer, respectively, while freshmen Malik Adams picked up his second Offensive Rookie of the Week award in football.

    Despite a career-high 320 passing yards by sophomore Robbie Lanier and 180 rushing yards by junior Jacques Alston, it was the Pride of Greensboro College who came out on top of a 44-42 gridiron shootout with the Battling Bishops on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Rocky Mount Athletic Stadium.
  • Wesleyan Football Falls at Christopher Newport, 20-8

    The Captains of Christopher Newport University handed North Carolina Wesleyan a 20-8 loss in Saturday night's USA South football action. The two squads battled wet conditions throughout the night, with the Captain defense coming up with three huge redzone stops in the first half that proved to be the difference in the game.
  • Hall of Fame Inductions Highlight 2013 Homecoming

    North Carolina Wesleyan celebrated its 2013 Homecoming on Saturday, and the day was full of notable highlights. A pair of USA South soccer wins headed the athletics action, while the Department of Athletics annual Hall of Fame inductions capped off a memorable night in Rocky Mount.
  • Lanier's Three TDs Lift Bishops to Victory at AU, 27-24

    The Battling Bishop football team of North Carolina Wesleyan picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, holding on for a 27-24 victory over Averett University to spoil the Cougars' Homecoming. Sophomore quarterback Robbie Lanier threw for a career-high 236 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Bishop offense. The win is the first at Wesleyan for head coach Jeff Filkovski, but more importantly, gives the Bishops a 1-0 record in USA South play.
  • USA South Announces 50th Anniversary Football Team

    The 2013-14 season serves as the 50th for the USA South Athletic Conference. In an effort to relive 50 Years of great student-athlete performances, each current League institution was given the opportunity to submit names of student-athletes who competed within the Conference and excelled not only on their campuses, but in the Conference as a whole. The league has begun the release of these 50th Anniversary teams with the sport of football, and N.C. Wesleyan is proud to have placed 15 Bishop players on the squad.
  • Salisbury Picks Up 28-10 Gridiron Win over NCWC

    The Salisbury University football team picked up a 28-10 win over homestanding N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Rocky Mount. The Sea Gulls out-scored the Bishops 21-7 in the second half en route to their first victory of the season.

    The USA South Athletic Conference has introduced a new endeavor for the 2013 football season as each week a "Football Play of the Week" will be chosen. With 62% of the vote (269 total votes cast), Robbie Lanier's fourth-quarter 62-yard touchdown pass to Greg Edwards versus Southern Virginia was the Week #2 winner!
  • Bishops Honor Local Heroes With 9/11 Passes

    September 11th is a time for remembering our fallen heroes from New York to Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C. It is also a time to recognize those local heroes that risk their lives daily to insure the safety of our Rocky Mount community. For this reason, the student-athletes of North Carolina Wesleyan annually honor our local policemen and firefighters by distributing season passes for all Battling Bishop sporting events.
  • Bishop Football Falls in Overtime to SVU, 24-21

    N.C. Wesleyan's football team made its much-anticipated return to the Rocky Mount Athletic Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but the Bishops would come up just short in a 24-21 overtime loss to Southern Virginia University. Wesleyan had forced OT with a 96-yard drive in the final two minutes that was capped by a successful 2-point conversion to junior tight end Albert Raynor. Unfortunately, the Bishops fumbled away their overtime possession, setting the stage for Davis Cragun's game-winning 27-yard field goal.
  • Wesleyan Football Drops Opener at Stevenson, 19-9

    North Carolina Wesleyan's football team kicked off its 2013 slate on Friday night, dropping a road contest at Stevenson University by a 19-9 score. The Bishops held a 9-3 advantage late in the third quarter, only to see the Mustangs reel off the final 16 points of the contest to secure the win. NCWC junior Jacques Alston paced Wesleyan with nearly 200 total yards of offense on the night.

    The North Carolina Wesleyan College football program is headed back to the Rocky Mount Athletic Stadium. In a joint press conference held today on site, the two parties announced a partnership that brings the Battling Bishops back to the venue where they played their inaugural game in 2004 and secured their first USA South championship in 2007.

  • NCWC's Dwayne Hollis Shines in International Debut

    Former Battling Bishop football standout Dwayne Hollis recently made his international debut with the Helsinki Roosters, and the two-time All-American provided an immediate impact! Having signed his contract on July 5th, Hollis played in his first game just three days later. Head Coach Juha Hakala is hyped to get the Wesleyan alum in his flock of Roosters: “Dwayne Hollis has tremendous speed and is amazing athlete. He also possesses a good vision for finding return lanes on special teams. He can be utilized in many positions on both sides of the ball because of his athletic abilities.” Hollis joins former Bishops Antonio Harris and Jaren Wilcox as Helsinki signees.
