    The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics hosted its 48th Annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 24th, in the Garner Lobby of the Dunn Center. Coaches, staff and student-athletes came together to celebrate the accomplishments of both individuals and teams from the 2012-2013 season.
  • Former Bishop Matt Dougherty to Play Professionally

    Former Battling Bishop men's basketball standout Matt Dougherty has signed to play professionally for the Australian Basketball League's Sturt Sabres. A 2012 Wesleyan graduate, Dougherty will make his debut on Saturday, April 6th.
  • Brandon Givens Earns Several All-American Honors

    North Carolina Wesleyan senior Brandon Givens has become the seventh Battling Bishop in program history to garner All-American honors on the hardwood. The 2013 USA South Player of the Year, Givens earned accolades from four different associations, including First Team honors by DIII News and Basketball Times, as well as a Second Team nod by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and a Third Team selection by D3Hoops.com.
  • Givens' 43 Points Breaks D-III All-Star Game Record

    North Carolina Wesleyan's Brandon Givens has broken several program records over the course of his remarkable senior season. The Ruffin, S.C. native continued that trend on Saturday, this time at the national level, when he broke the Division III All-Star Game record with a game-high 43 points in Salem, Va.
  • NCWC's Givens Selected to NABC D-III All-Star Game

    The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has released complete rosters for the 2013 Reese's Division III Men's Basketball All-Star Game, and North Carolina Wesleyan is pleased to announce that senior Brandon Givens was one of two players selected from the South Region. A First Team All-Region selection and the 2013 USA South Player of the Year, Givens led the nation in scoring this season en route to becoming the first Battling Bishop in history to garner an All-Star selection.
  • Wesleyan Hoops Season Ends in Tourney Semifinals

    The N.C. Wesleyan men's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Friday night in the semifinals of th 2013 USA South Conference Tournament. Top-seeded Christopher Newport built a 13-point advantage at the half and held on for an eventual 72-59 win at Fayetteville's Crown Center Arena. The loss leaves the Battling Bishops with a 16-11 overall record and marks the ends of the careers of seniors Brandon Givens, Julian Martin and Cornelius Snow.
  • Bishop Men Advance with 70-62 Victory over Monarchs

    The Battling Bishop men's basketball team has advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 USA South Conference Tournament thanks to a 70-62 victory over 5th-seeded Methodist University on Thursday at Fayetteville's Crown Center Arena. The 4th-seeded Bishops got a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds from the league's Player of the Year, Brandon Givens, while senior Cornelius Snow chipped in 11 points of his own.
  • USA South Tournaments Set to Tip-Off in Fayetteville

    The 2013 USA South Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments are set to tip-off in Fayetteville, N.C. Each tournament will feature the league's top eight teams and will be conducted in Fayetteville's Crown Center Arena. The men's tournament will begin on Thursday, February 21, while the women's tournament will kick off on Friday, February 22.
  • NCWC's Givens Named USA South Player of the Year

    The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2012-2013 All-Conference awards for men's basketball with a total of 23 student-athletes being honored. N.C. Wesleyan's Brandon Givens was named Player of the Year, becoming the third Battling Bishop in program history to earn the award. Other Bishops earning recognition were Josh Morrison picking up an Honorable Mention nod and fellow junior David Gurganus being named to the league's All-Sportsmanship team.

  • Pride Men Too Much for Bishops on Senior Night

    On Senior Night in Everett Gymnasium, it was the Pride of Greensboro College who came out on top, 93-86, in a back-and-forth league tilt with the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan. The game was the final home contest for seniors Julian Martin, Cornelius Snow and Brandon Givens, who were recognized prior to tip-off.

    North Carolina Wesleyan held Averett University scoreless over the final 3:47 of the contest to earn an eventual 71-67 comeback win over the Cougars in Wednesday night's USA South men's hoops action. The Bishops, who trailed by 13 at the half, score the game's final eight points to secure their fourth straight win.

The milestone win comes just one week from the program's 50-Year Anniversary Celebration, which is slated for next Saturday, January 26th.

    The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly honors for January 14th, and North Carolina Wesleyan senior Brandon Givens has earned his fourth Player of the Week honor in men's basketball. A native of Ruffin, S.C., Givens led the Bishops to a 2-0 record last week versus USA South competition by averaging a double-double of 36.5 points and 11.0 rebounds to go along with 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per contest.

    The men's basketball team of N.C. Wesleyan edged out USA South foe LaGrange College by a 79-75 score on Sunday afternoon in Everett Gymnasium. The win was the second straight for the Battling Bishops, who move to 9-5 on the season and 2-3 in league play.

    In a USA South men's basketball thriller, North Carolina Wesleyan overcame a 16-point deficit with just under six minutes remaining to earn an eventual 112-109 double overtime victory over the 13th-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport on Wednesday night in Everett Gym.

The Bishops' Brandon Given continued his impressive play with 23 points and nine rebounds, while junior Josh Morrison joined him in double-figures with 11 points and six boards.
  • Bishop Men Suffer League Loss at Ferrum, 85-71

    The North Carolina Wesleyan men's basketball team returned from its holiday break on Saturday, traveling to Ferrum College for a league tilt with the Panthers. After forging a 43-38 lead at the break, the Battling Bishops watched as Ferrum used a 47-28 surge in the second half to earn an 85-71 win. Lamont King led the Panthers with a season-high 24 points.

    Guilford College used a strong second half effort to down North Carolina Wesleyan by an 80-64 score in Saturday afternoon's non-conference hoops action. The Quakers, who led just 37-35 at the break, out-scored the Bishops 28-13 over the final 11 minutes to secure their sixth win of the season.
