    The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced its NABC Honors Court, which recognizes collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2013-14 season. North Carolina Wesleyan head coach John Thompson is pleased to announce that former Battling Bishop and current assistant coach David Gurganus garnered recognition.

    The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2013-2014 Academic All-Conference Team, and North Carolina Wesleyan College is pleased to announce that 84 Battling Bishops have garnered recognition, marking the highest total in school history!
  • Former Bishop David Gurganus Joins Coaching Staff

    Former Battling Bishop David Gurganus has called North Carolina Wesleyan home for the past four years as a member of the men’s basketball program, and thanks to an offer of employment signed last week, the Goldsboro native will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Pictured right with President Dewey Clark and Vice President Judy Rollins, Gurganus has accepted a position as a full-time admissions counselor with the College, which also offers the aspiring coach an opportunity to gain valuable experience on the sidelines as a member of Wesleyan’s basketball staff.
  • Athletics Hosts 49th Annual Awards Ceremony

    The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics hosted its 49th Annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 23rd, in Minges Auditorium of the Dunn Center. Coaches, staff and student-athletes came together to celebrate the accomplishments of both individuals and teams from the 2013-2014 season.
  • Bishop Men End Season in USA South Tournament

    The men's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan saw its 2013-14 season come to an end on Thursday evening, falling to LaGrange College by an 88-76 score in the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament. The loss marks the end of the careers of four-year seniors David Gurganus and Josh Morrison.
  • Morrison Named USA South First Team All-Conference

    The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2013-14 All-Conference awards for men's basketball. A total of 25 student-athletes were named to various teams, with N.C. Wesleyan having two Bishops garner accolades. Senior Josh Morrison was tabbed a First Team selection, and his fellow captain David Gurganus was named a member of the All-Sportsmanship team.

    N.C. Wesleyan's men's basketball team celebrated its 2014 senior day on Sunday afternoon with a 72-58 win over Ferrum College in Everett Gymnasium. The Bishops, who closed out the first half with a 16-0 run to take control of the game, honored four-year letterwinners Josh Morrison and David Gurganus prior to tip-off.
  • Bishop Hoopsters Split at League Rival Methodist

    The men's and women's basketball teams of N.C. Wesleyan turned in a split with league rival Methodist University on Wednesday night in Fayetteville. The Battling Bishop women dropped a 77-70 decision to the Lady Monarchs, but Wesleyan's men followed up with a 90-77 victory in the late game to even their record at 12-12 on the season.
  • Morrison Scores 1,000th Point, Bishops Sweep at Home

    Senior Josh Morrison eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career on Saturday afternoon, helping his Battling Bishops to a 81-66 victory over visiting Greensboro College in USA South play. Needing 13 points to become the 17th member of the program's elite club, the Chapel Hill native's milestone basket came with 2:48 remaining in the first half when he secured an offensive rebound and put-back. Morrison went on to tally 33 points on the day, which he followed up with a 21-point effort in Sunday's 76-66 win over Averett.
  • Wesleyan Men Suffer 90-79 League Loss at Ferrum

    The men's basketball team of N.C. Wesleyan suffered a 90-79 loss at USA South foe Ferrum College on Sunday afternoon. The Bishops had four players reach double-figures, three of which combined for nine three-pointers, but they were unable to overcome the Panthers' shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor on the day.

    The men's basketball team of N.C. Wesleyan cruised to an 88-71 victory over William Peace University in Wednesday night's USA South hoops action at Everett Gymnasium. Senior Josh Morrison and sophomore D.J. Weaver paced Wesleyan with 20 points apiece, combining to go a solid 9-of-12 from behind the arc.
  • Three-Point Play Lifts Bishops Past Monarchs, 70-69

    N.C. Wesleyan's Tamell Bradham made just one field goal on Thursday night, but it proved to be the biggest bucket of the game. With his team trailing 69-67, the freshman converted an old-fashioned three-point play with three seconds remaining to give his Battling Bishops a 70-69 win over USA South rival Methodist University in Everett Gym.
  • NCWC Men Drop Pair of Road Games in League Play

    The men's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan dropped a pair of USA South road contests this weekend, falling 95-92 at Huntington College on Saturday and 100-76 at LaGrange College on Sunday. Sophomore Devontae Williams averaged 17 points and eight rebounds over the two games.

    Senior Josh Morrison averaged 24.5 points per game over two contests this weekend, leading his N.C. Wesleyan men's basketball team to a USA South split in Everett Gymnasium. He began with a 25-point showing in Friday night's dominating 86-63 win over Covenant, then ended with a solid 24-point outing in Saturday's heartbreaking 72-69 loss to league-leading Maryville.

  • USAS Releases 50th Anniversary Men's Hoops Squad

    The 2013-14 season serves as the 50th for the USA South Athletic Conference. In an effort to relive 50 Years of great student-athlete performances, each current league institution was given the opportunity to submit names of student-athletes who competed within the Conference and excelled not only on their campuses, but in the Conference as a whole. The league has continued its recognition of these teams with the sport of men's basketball, and N.C. Wesleyan is proud to have placed ten Bishop players on the squad.

    Senior Josh Morrison notched a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to help lead his N.C. Wesleyan men's basketball squad to a 68-56 victory at William Peace University on Tuesday night. Morrison netted 10 of his points in the second half to help turn a 33-28 halftime lead into a 12-point win.

    The Battling Bishop men's basketball team gave 10th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan all it could handle on Friday afternoon in Virginia Beach, falling by a 79-71 score in overtime. The contest marks the second straight OT defeat at the hands of a top-25 team, as NCWC fell to 17th-ranked Guilford in extras prior to the holiday break.

    North Carolina Wesleyan outscored Mid-Atlantic Christian by 30 points in the second half to secure a 91-50 victory over the Mustangs on Saturday afternoon in Everett Gymnasium. Freshman Tamell Bradham netted a team-high 19 points to pace the Bishops, who evened their record at 4-4 on the season.
  • Bishop Men Suffer Hoops Loss at Coastal Carolina

    The men's basketball team of N.C. Wesleyan traveled to Coastal Carolina on Thursday night, suffering an 89-54 loss to the Division I Chanticleers. The Bishops trailed just 35-26 at the break, but CCU shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half to pull away.

    The men's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan officially opened the 2013-14 season on Friday and Saturday, hosting its annual Roger Taylor Invitational. The host Bishops, along with the Pride of Greensboro College, went undefeated in the tourney as both teams earned victories over Bob Jones University and Maryland Bible College.

  • Bishops Honor Local Heroes With 9/11 Passes

    September 11th is a time for remembering our fallen heroes from New York to Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C. It is also a time to recognize those local heroes that risk their lives daily to insure the safety of our Rocky Mount community. For this reason, the student-athletes of North Carolina Wesleyan annually honor our local policemen and firefighters by distributing season passes for all Battling Bishop sporting events.
